Rincón Coastal Erosion and Sediment Properties Online Viewer (work in progress)
Sediment compatibility is the main design consideration for beach nourishment projects (Dean, 2003). Similar grain size distributions between the native and borrowed sites is crucial for determining the longevity and cost effectiveness of the project. This map shows the sand grain size (median grain size or D50) at different locations in Rincón using data obtained from shallow sediment cores and grab samples as part of a project funded by UPR Sea Grant (project R/77-1-14, Towards Potential Beach Nourishment in Rincón: Seamless RTK Surveying and Sediment Compatibility Analysis, PIs M. Canals and S. Rodriguez).
